About Us and The Showcase Community
What is The Showcase? While designing the look and feel of the site I tried to keep in mind who might use it and what they might look for when they got here. More specifically, what might cause them to want to come back, again and again.
The Power of Content. It goes without saying, site content is everything. Regular features that are interesting, constantly renewed and always evolving. The Showcase is visitor driven, yet maintains a style which you will instantly recognize and already be familiar with. The Showcase provides an open environment in which the interaction of our visitors, with us and each other, provides a sharing of views, advice and experiences, that only the vast power of the internet can offer.
We can be that quiet place, somewhere to unwind, or a busy place, somewhere to speak your mind, laugh at the jokes, or shop for something special. A site to rejuvenate the weary, or relax the hyper. Here's some of the things we've got to offer:
Enough Freestuff to keep even the most avid surfer happy for hours and hours.
Online Jokes and Puzzles, changed regularly, to do online or to print off. Some occasionally even have prizes.
Quick Search the WebShowcase, or the whole internet, directly from our site.
Our Tell a Friend script is just such a good excuse to get in touch with somebody you've not seen for a long time, tell them about the Showcase, and catch up on some gossip.
Join in our Thought for the Day on our Discussion Group Messageboard. Go on, don't be shy, all you've got to do is type what you want to say (check the spelling) and press send. (Not the other way round, please! Ha, Ha!)
Clicking on the Young Showcase will find plenty for our young visitors to do online. From the latest toys and games, to sites with the latest stars and gossip. Young Showcase users have fun pictures to print off and colour in.
The Showcase is divided up into catagories to make it as easy as possible to find the things you need online. I've literally spent months online looking for the best in online shops to include in the Web Showcase. They've all been thoroughly vetted before being recommended to you, spread throughout a hundred departments, making whatever you're looking for, easy to find.
Many of these companies have names you will recognize from the "real world", names that you have trusted for years and won't be gone tomorrow. Don't forget also that a lot of the purely internet companies have also been around for some time now. Many started in 1995 when the internet began to be recognized as the new media of the century, struggling to find a niche and acceptance as the latest craze to threaten us with yet more change in our lives. They're still here, going strong and are planning to stay.
We have been adamant in only adopting those shops that have had the insight to realise that internet shoppers WILL NOT PUT UP WITH ANY OLD RUBBISH online or offline.
1. Plenty of gift giving ideas.
2. Very competitive, if not the best, pricing.
3. Lots of information for the consumer and easy shopping cart systems.
4. Easy navigation and not too much "Flash".
I do a lot of my banking online, the first had a flash intro, flash login, flash buttons. It made really loud clicks but didnt go anywhere, had horrendously long download times, crashed the browser if you tried anything before it fully loaded and cost a cool one million quid. Sound familiar? It was quicker to drive the 18 miles to the nearest branch. These onscreen wonders are fine, BUT ONLY ONCE! After that all I want to do, is bank. Needless to say, I changed.
These sites may be works of art, but the technology's only fun if it works. I'd be happy to hear what you think. Ed.
5. Full and varied selectable contents.
6. Courteous replies to online enquiries and confirmation of order or status reports of online order.
7. File sizes that consider download times which cost the consumer time and money.
8. Clear pricing and delivery charges, where applicable.
9. Honest assessments about likely delivery times and availability of goods.
10. The internet is growing faster than any other mass medium in history. Those that do it right will be the winners, rewarded with customer loyalty and sales to match.
Bad press is doing a lot of damage to the good and honest sites also. But, the Showcase is trying to redress the balance, by only including those sites and shops that have something in common with the above criteria, after all, I'm an internet shopper too and actually use many of the shops and services that are presented on this site.
What does all this cost? Not a bean! You don't have to
register to participate, neither is it mandatory to buy anything. The Showcase and all it's resources are freely available to anyone surfing the internet.
I hope this has given you an insight into what we're about here and the company's approach to the kind of high level of service we will always strive to achieve. Our staff are highly trained and motivated to taking the decisions that make the Showcase the place to be on the internet.
